Vidlane privacy policy

Last updated 23 October 2026

Vidlane is an independent native client for a compatible Materialious server chosen by you. Golka does not operate a public Vidlane video service, create a central Vidlane account, or receive your viewing history through the app. The app contains no advertising, analytics or developer-operated crash-reporting SDK.

Your device

Server addresses, account identifiers, display names and preferences are stored locally. Session tokens and account encryption keys are stored in the operating system Keychain. Active video details, captions, searches and playback state are held in memory; system media frameworks and image loading may temporarily cache media or thumbnails. The app has no offline video library or download function. Switching profiles preserves each profile’s credentials. Removing a profile signs it out on that device; it does not delete the server account or its data.

Your chosen server

The app sends authentication requests, searches, channel and playlist requests, playback requests and account changes to your configured server. Your server and its network provider can observe your IP address, request times and requested content. Materialious stores encrypted subscription names and identifiers, personal playlist contents and selected account preferences. Viewing-history metadata is encrypted, while progress, duration and timestamps needed by the server remain available to that server. Encryption does not hide request paths, request timing or playback choices from the server operator.

When viewing history and position saving are both enabled, the app saves and restores viewing progress through Materialious. Turning position saving off keeps viewing-history metadata enabled but stops progress updates and automatic resume. You can turn history off and delete individual history entries or clear history. Disabling history does not automatically delete existing records. Account deletion, server logs, backups and retention are controlled by the server operator. Ask that operator about its privacy and deletion practices.

External services

Your Materialious server obtains content and playback resources from upstream services, including YouTube, and SponsorBlock metadata when enabled. SponsorBlock requests originate on Materialious; Vidlane receives segment information from that server. Vidlane does not send your account encryption key to these services.

Thumbnails supplied in content metadata may load directly from their image host; that host receives normal network information such as your IP address. Media plays through the configured Materialious playback endpoint. Browser sign-in or CAPTCHA verification opens your server’s web interface; its identity provider or verification provider may process data according to the operator’s configuration. AirPlay sends playback to the receiver selected by you. These services and devices have their own privacy practices.

Apple and optional support

Apple handles purchases and TestFlight distribution. Diagnostic information you choose to share through Apple’s tools is handled under Apple’s policies. If you contact support, the recipient receives the message and information you include. Do not send passwords, session tokens, encryption keys or private viewing history.
